TAKEN FROM THE ODR SITE:
The ODR (Okanagan Dirt Riders) was established in 2002 after the death of local rider Alf Klassen, who was taken by cancer. The ODR created the 1st Annual Alf Klassen Poker Run to pay respects and to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society of Canada.
In 2003, George, President of ODR, and a former off-road racer, launched the first Interior based off-road racing series. The season consisted of four races with a year-end trophy presentation at a local dealership. In 2004 the series grew a bit larger, with average attendance of 84-racers. By the end of that year the attention for "The little series that could" began to blossom, and in Spring 2005, going into its third season, racer attendance hit an all-time high of 174 competitors. It was a sign that racing in the Interior of B.C. was on the grow.
___2005 brought solid growth in the ODR; on the racing end of things with excellent Professional competition, on the family side of the sport with the amateurs, and in marketing. Many have noted that the ODR has become the clear leader in Canada for marketing the sport of off-road racing - attention and exposure that has not been available before.
