Polaris unveiled its new 440 snocross sled at Hay Days.
On Saturday, some vintage sleds made an exhibition run on the grass track.
Real racers also ran hard at Hay Days, with damp weather playing a role on Sunday.

Hay Days drew a larger crowd this year,
reportedly 33,000+, with Saturday
being the big day. Light rain slowed
the pace on Sunday.

Folks saw a solid set of races, although
entries were down this year. Much of
the activity was at the swap meet along
with the manufacturer and aftermarket
booths. Business was brisk with a lot of
deals on new and carryover sleds as
manufacturers announced a variety of
incentives to help clear out dealer inventory.

There were few announcements from
the Big 4 at the show, other than
financing deals.

All the manufacturers are making only
modest changes in their snocross sleds
this year as they prepare for the formula
to change from 440cc models to 600cc
racers next season. Only Polaris showed
its revamped version at the show, the
40th annual in Lino Lakes, Minn.

Polaris says it has worked primarily on
durability for its 440 IQ, knowing you have
to finish to win. First step was reinforcing
the front clip and rear close off to aid chassis strength. But the Minnesota sled maker also is    adding a stronger belt to reduce
failures there too.

Watch for our December issue with
more news from Hay Days and the industry.
